The Delaware County Historical Society is pleased to announce that the Board of Elections office is now decorated with an exhibit of panels with images and information about Delaware County History.
Chris Shaw, Director of the Delaware County Records Center, invited the Delaware County Historical Society to install a display illuminating some aspects of Delaware County History in the main hallway leading into the County Records and Board of Elections. DCHS Director Donna Meyer readily agreed and DCHS Museum and Exhibit Curator Benny Shoults assembled the collection and has installed for public viewing.
Railroad History of Delaware County is a curated collection of historic railroad photographs, maps, and charts that tell the story of the many railroads that shaped Delaware County’s growth and industry.
Grocery Stores of Delaware County presents then-and-now photographs of early grocery stores that were neighborhood hubs for many decades. They offered fresh produce and meats as well as household staples flour, sugar, coffee, tea, and spices. Many grocery stores also served as post offices.
Gas Stations of Delaware County shows the evolution of the gas station from single pumps as automobile dealers to stand-along gas stations to – service stations fixing and maintaining automobiles as well as pumping gasoline.
The exhibit is derived from the popular Delaware County Historical Society’s popular booth exhibits at the Delaware County Fairs in the past few years.
The Delaware County Records Center is located at 2079 State Route 23 North, Delaware, Ohio 43015, along with the Board of Elections, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and Title Bureau. The Records Center is a member of the Delaware County History Network , a collaboration of Delaware County history organizations.
